Breaking Barriers: Indian-American Woman on Atlanta Talk Radio

When Neha’s radio talk radio show on WMLB-1690 debuted in 2016, she broke the barrier to become one of the only Indian-American women on Atlanta’s talk radio market.
Determined to open with a grand splash, she booked celebrity CeeLo Green as the first guest welcoming him in-studio. Seen from the Inside’s guest list quickly filled up with leaders like Jeff Foxworthy, Zac Brown Band members, Collective Soul, Arianna Huffington, Soledad O’Brien, B-52’s and many more.
Neha and guests would chat about how surmounting obstacles created insight and morphed into deeply impactful social solutions. Many of the leaders started a foundation that primarily focused on that one barrier that presented the heaviest challenge to overcome.
For example, former Atlanta Hawks center Theo Ratliff opened up a youth center in his Alabama hometown so young people have a place to practice sports after school. Candidly, Theo admitted that this type of practice center would have been a lot more beneficial than the old tire he used as a backyard basketball hoop.
Stories like this quickly filled the air waves giving people the inspiration and motivation to break barriers and ignite positive change.

More on Neha’s Story

Neha grew up overcoming barriers whether exterior or self-imposed. Each and every one provided complex challenges but Neha found a way to break through and transform living her best life. She wants to help others do the same.
Neha was born in the bustling city of Chicago and (as her mom says) quickly started breaking barriers. Especially the kind that involved learning to talk earlier than her peers and not being shy. As a young toddler she role played with her doll on her toy telephone. She had the gift of gab, using it to break tension on the playground and create an even playing field so everyone has a say.
She broke the barrier to form a new community when the current one didn’t offer acceptance. Around 12 years old, she decided to become one of the only Indian-American candy stripers volunteering in Charlotte (NC) hospitals.
Her work with nonprofits is a defining pillar of her positive impact. She is an award-winning thought leader on creating positive community-wide change. Her work with one of the largest chapters of a global nonprofit, Junior League of Atlanta, Inc., (JLA) revolutionized the way she builds community.
The JLA work on Diversity & Inclusion initiatives led to her receiving the best committee work award. Her eight-month intensive nonprofit program through Atlanta Women’s Foundation is a defining statement of leadership transformation.
Her corporate America marketing career sizzled at multinational companies like Turner Broadcasting, T-Mobile (corporate headquarters) and Starbucks (corporate headquarters) until it mutually brewed to a close. Taking a leave after the birth of her son led to breaking the barrier to shift into an entrepreneurial transformation.
Her critically-acclaimed talk radio show began another chapter in her entrepreneurship path. After a couple of years, the radio show shut its business doors. But it opened a new chapter for her highly popular podcast. She co-hosts Lentil Soup for the Soul with her good friend, Shalini Somaskanda. Together, they delve deep into breaking the barriers that bring forth transformational change.
Neha is a member of SAJA (South Asian Journalists Association) and still plays a pivotal role in many nonprofit organizations.
